Job Description
Responsible To: Education Coordinator and Center/Area Director

Essential Function:
To support the school readiness of preschool children as they transition into and out of Head Start Services. Provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children while they are in the Head Start environment (classroom or outdoor play area). The development of lesson plans and Individual Goals for children, provision of on:going assessment and facilitation of transitions into and out of Head Start. Support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program. Maintain on:going contact with families to assist with requirements in health, nutrition, family services, mental health, and special services. Must meet applicable requirements per Federal Head Start Performance Standards, the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007 and any local, state/or agency policies and procedures.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Read, understand, and adhere to the Agencys Personnel Policies and Staff Procedures.
2. Ensure compliance with applicable Head Start Performance Standards, federal and state regulation, and Child Care Licensing requirements.
3. Read, understand and implement Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
4. Participation in on:going professional development through education, role modeling or mentoring.
5. Maintain record keeping and reporting systems to ensure accurate information, with timely completion and follow:up.
6. Maintain classroom records as required and record information in ChildPlus.
7. Insure implementation and completion of lesson plans.
8. Complete home visits and parent conferences as outlined in program requirements
9. Analyze child assessment and quality assessments for the classroom.
10. Administer ongoing child assessment as outlined in program requirements.
11. Post schedule of daily routines, lesson plans and newsletter in a visible area.
12. Oversee supervision and management of children in the classroom in order to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment
13. Maintain the adult/child ratio.
14. Maintain limits for behavior which are appropriate and consistent.
15. Work to maintain Classroom Average Daily Attendance by communicating with the Family Services Specialist.
16. Document weekly attendance ChildPlus in accordance with program requirements.
17. Assist Family Services Specialists in obtaining 45 and 90 day health requirements, follow:up documentation, and family partnerships.
18. Be responsible for notifying the Health Services Coordinator about children who need to be screened.
19. Complete duties as assigned by the Center/Area Director.
20. Assist in tasks other than those listed which may necessitate rearrangement of daily plans.
21. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Agency policy
22. Be honest, reliable and dependable.
23. Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children
24. Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.

Experience and Qualifications:

Must demonstrate a positive attitude, function as a team member, and show a commitment to the overall mission of the agency. Staff must be reliable, cooperative, and willing to accept supervision, show evidence of emotional maturity and stability. A Bachelors degree in Early Childhood is preferred, a minimal of an Associates Degree for Head Start/ CDA for Early Head Start, is required. Individuals must clearly demonstrate the interest and ability to work effectively with children and adults.
