Job Description
Responsible To: Education Coordinator/ Center Director

Essential Function:
To support the school readiness of children as they transition into and out of Head Start Services. To assist the teacher and cooperate in a supportive role carrying out developmentally appropriate activities. To promote the health, nutrition and education of the children and to attend to their safety and welfare. Must meet applicable requirements per Federal Head Start Performance Standards, the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007, and any local, state/or agency policies and procedures.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Read, understand, and adhere to the Agencys Personnel Policies and Staff Procedures.
2. Ensure compliance with applicable Head Start Performance Standards, federal and state regulation, and Child Care Licensing requirements.
3. Participate in on:going professional development through education, role modeling or mentoring.
4. Assist classroom staff in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy work environment.
5. Support classroom staff in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment process.
6. Use developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate activities with groups and individuals.
7. Utilize daily plans which reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of preschool children.
8. Follow a consistent schedule that meets individual needs, including small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities.
9. Model appropriate behavior and interact in a positive, friendly and courteous manner with children, staff, families and community volunteers in order to build and foster responsive relationships.
10. Assist in the supervision and management of children in the classroom.
11. Sanitize classroom equipment and laundry.
12. Assist with meal service as needed.
13. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Agency policy.
14. Be honest, reliable, and dependable.
15. Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children.
16. Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.

Experience and Qualifications:
Must demonstrate a positive attitude, function as a team member, and show a commitment to the overall mission of the agency. Staff must be reliable, cooperative, and willing to accept supervision and show evidence of emotional maturity and stability. CDA preferred, minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.

1. Pre:employment Drug Screening/Criminal Record Checks
2. Physical Examination within 45 days of hire and every 3 years.
3. TB Skin Test, INH card, or Risk Assessment prior to employment and every 2 years.
4. Submit to Random Drug Screenings as outlined within agency Personnel Policies.
5. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
6. Must possess at minimum a current CDA, or enroll immediately upon hire into a program to obtain a CDA within 2 years.
7. Must have a valid Kentucky Drivers License.
8. Must be able to engage in a full range of motion (bend, squat, kneel, stretch, twist).
9. Must have reliable transportation, and the ability, and willingness to travel the service area as needed.
10. Work week up to 40 hours during the school year.
